As followers of Christ, we should always be mindful of what forms of media we intake. We must always guard our hearts and our minds in all circumstances, whether that be watching the news, scrolling through social media, or listening to music. Intaking media is a huge part of our daily lives and is almost always unavoidable. This is why we need to take the initiative to filter out what is not going to be uplifting or beneficial to our spirit.
“Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” – Proverbs 4:23
“I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me.” – Psalm 101:3
“Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.” – Colossians 3:2
The news is one of our biggest forms of media. Most individuals watch it daily to be informed about events in our country, our state, or throughout the world. We are very quick to side with what the reporter on the screen is relaying to us. We assume these individuals would not lie. But we live in a fallen world, and many of these news channels are very biased and are quick to misinform viewers to get them to side with their political beliefs. This is why, as Christians, we should not be so quick to believe everything we see and hear. We must always pray and consult the Holy Spirit about everything before forming our own opinions. Do not be so quick to side with an individual just because they say they are Christian or follow the same political ideology. The Holy Spirit knows the heart of all individuals and will differentiate to us what is the truth from what is a lie.
“Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.” – Matthew 7:15
“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.” – James 1:5
Whether it be the news, social media, music platforms, or any other form of media, we should never be so quick to side with any view point or ideology, no matter how widely accepted it is. Consult the Holy Spirit always! We have many new forms of technology, such as AI. Which has gotten so advanced to the point it is hard to tell real from fake. This can be very dangerous! This is why it is imperative to pray and seek guidance from God. We must pray that more forms of media will arise that are genuine and true, and that the forms of media that run on bribes and falsehood will be shut down!
